What it is.
- Most AI tools send what you type to data centres overseas, usually in the US.
- Sovereign AI keeps the model, your data and the processing on Australian soil.
- Some cloud options already do this. AWS can run Claude in Sydney and Melbourne, and Microsoft Azure can run some OpenAI models in Australia. It depends on the setup you choose, so check.
Why it matters to you.
- Health, finance, government and NDIS work often comes with rules about where data can be held.
- Under the Privacy Act you stay responsible for customer information you send to an AI provider, wherever it is processed.
